PRESS RELEASE
The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) is pleased to announce the certification of
Dr. Joseph K. Vargo on April 25, 2005 as a Diplomate. Dr Vargo maintains a private practice in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in Rome, Georgia.
The American Board of Orthodontics is the only certifying organization for the specialty of orthodontics that is recognized by the American Dental Association and sponsored by the American Association of Orthodontists. The American Board of Orthodontics was established in 1929 and was the third certifying board in the health professions and the first in dentistry.
Board certification is an elective process. It is intended to provide assurance to the public that an orthodontic specialist has successfully completed an approved educational program and an evaluation process which includes an examination designed to assess the knowledge, skills and clinical expertise required to provide quality patient care. Completion of this process is an indication of an orthodontist’s commitment to a high level of treatment excellence.
Dr Vargo received his dental degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1992. He completed a General Practice Residency in hospital dentistry at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center at Montefiore Hospital in 1993. His residency in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics is from West Virginia University. He earned his Master’s Degree in Orthodontics and Craniofacial Biology from West Virginia University in 1996. Upon graduation, he moved to Rome with his family and opened a small practice on Sixth Avenue. He has since relocated his office to the Historic Double Cola Building on 419 East Second Ave, which completed an extensive rehabilitation in October 2004.
Dr. Vargo is active in numerous professional organizations including the American Association of Orthodontics, the Southern Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Georgia Dental Association and the International Association for Dental Research. He has authored numerous publications in his field and often lectures to graduate orthodontic students. He is also an extremely active residing member of the Rome community both as a professional and father of his two young children.
