Does Invisalign hurt?
Even though there is pressure that is applied to the teeth in order to get them to straighten and align, most patients are not affected by this pressure. There are times where a patient may feel some discomfort, especially during the times when you are given new aligners. However, the discomfort is usually gone with a couple of days and for most patients, the pain level is low.
Generally, the mouth and teeth become accustomed to the pressure and the patient does not notice it all. For those times when there may be some discomfort, ibuprofen or acetaminophen can alleviate any discomfort.
Is Invisalign easy to use?
Invisalign, available in Adairville, GA, are very easy to use and much more effective than metal braces. Because they are so easily removable, it is much easier to keep your teeth clean, compared to metal braces where food gets caught in the brackets and wires. There are also no diet restrictions like there are with metal braces because you remove the aligners when you eat.
How do you care for the aligners used to straighten teeth?
Adairville, GA patients who use Invisalign do have to keep the aligners clean, however, this is just as easy as cleaning your teeth. Your orthodontist will provide you with a cleaning system designed just for the aligners, however, you can also use a toothbrush and lukewarm water if your system is not available. Please note, you should never use hot water on the aligners because they can become warped from the heat.
It is important to make sure you brush and floss your teeth effectively in order to keep bacteria from growing on the aligners. Not only is this unhealthy, but it can also cause the aligners to change color and no longer be transparent.
Do patients need to wear a retainer once treatment is done?
Whether you got through treatment with metal braces or Invisalign, you will likely need to wear a retainer once treatment is complete. A retainer helps prevent teeth from moving, which can happen over a period of time. Most retainers are only needed to be worn at night.
There are some cases where your orthodontist will not recommend a retainer, such as when a patient only required a slight correction.
Do Invisalign in Adairville, GA cost more than metal braces?
Despite what many people think, generally, Invisalign cost about the same as metal braces do. If your dental insurance covers braces, they will likely cover Invisalign. If you do not have dental insurance, you can discuss financing options with your orthodontist. Many practices offer monthly payment options.
